How a Spray Booth Suppression System Works
Industrial spray booths require a system that reacts in seconds. Most systems utilize a dry chemical agent designed to flood the booth and exhaust stack, smothering the fire and neutralizing the fuel source.
The 3-Step Protection Process
Detection
Heat-Sensitive Fuses
The system relies on tensioned cables held in place by heat-sensitive fusible links. If a fire starts, the heat breaks the link, instantly triggering the system.
1
Activation
Interlocks & Shutdown
Upon activation, the system doesn't just fight the fire it engages Safety Interlocks. This automatically shuts down the air compressors and ventilation fans to stop fueling the fire with oxygen.
2
Suppression
Chemical Discharge
Tensioned cables release the dry chemical agent through nozzles strategically positioned throughout the booth and into the exhaust plenum/duct work, covering the entire hazard area.
3
Paint spray booths present a unique and volatile fire risk. The combination of flammable lacquers, paint fumes, and constant airflow creates an environment where a fire can spread instantly. Standard sprinklers are often not enough. At SOS Fire Services, we design, install, and maintain high-performance suppression systems specifically engineered to detect and extinguish fires in spray booths before they cause catastrophic damage.
