The challenge

What the Client Needed

An industrial cook-and-chill kitchen runs large kettles under a long exhaust canopy for hours at a time, with a heavy grease vapor load. The canopy, the duct plenum and the kettle needed a wet chemical system built to NFPA 17A and NFPA 96, with the fuel and power cut automatically if it fires and a manual release by the exit.

What we did

How the Job Was Done

  1. Cylinder and control head

The PCL-300 cylinder was hung on a heavy-duty bracket on the wall beside the canopy, with the NMCH3 control head mounted above it and connected to the cylinder valve by a copper actuation line.

  2. Interlocks

Microswitches in the control head were wired through EMT conduit to the electric gas shut-off valve and the main power contactors, so a release cuts fuel and power to the equipment under the canopy.

  3. Manual pull station

Conduit was run down the wall to a manual pull station mounted 48 inches above the floor beside the exit door.

  4. Nozzles over the kettle

Discharge piping and nozzles were set in the canopy to cover the cook-and-chill kettle and the duct plenum.

  5. Installation check

Every component was checked against Pyro-Chem's installation manual: cylinder gauge in the operating range, actuation line without kinks, switches wired, pull station connected.

Results

The Outcome

  • Kettle line protected

Automatic wet chemical coverage over the kettle, canopy and plenum.

  • Fuel and power shut-off

Both cut by the system on release.

  • Ready for the fire department

Installed and checked for the acceptance test.
