The challenge

What the Client Needed

The kitchen has two existing exhaust hoods. Both had to be protected by one system, with enough expellant pressure to discharge through both nozzle networks at the same time.

What we did

How the Job Was Done

  1. Survey and pre-engineered plans

An on-site mechanical survey, then drawings using the Ansul R-102 design parameters: appliance coverage, flow numbers, branch lines, actuation tubing and shut-off interlocks.

  2. Plan check

Plans submitted to the Fire Department plan check and managed through to stamped approval before installation.

  3. Tanks and cartridge

Two 3-gallon ANSULEX tanks, 6 gallons of agent in total, with a doubler cartridge instead of a single-tank cartridge so both hoods discharge at once.

  4. Piping and nozzles

Supply piping and discharge nozzles over every cooking appliance, plenum and duct in both hoods.

  5. Balloon witness test

Test balloons on every nozzle tip, then a manual trip with the fire inspector present. Every balloon inflated, showing an open flow path in both hoods, and the gas shut-off valve and the power interlocks to the kitchen equipment were confirmed.
