The challenge
The owners needed the building's common areas brought up to the municipal fire code, NFPA 10 and their insurer's requirements and needed the extinguishers protected from tampering and damage.
What we did
We walked every floor, stairwell, lobby and mechanical room and placed units so that no point is more than 75 feet of travel from an extinguisher, the NFPA 10 limit.
Semi-recessed and surface-mounted cabinets keep a clean look in the hallways.
Cabinets in the hallways, at lobby entrances, by the parking garage doors and on stairwell landings, each holding a 5 lb ABC dry chemical extinguisher, with high-visibility decals and opening instructions on every door.
Every unit was inspected, pressurized and tagged. The owners received an asset register with each cabinet's location, floor, extinguisher serial number and maintenance schedule.
Results
Insurance requirements met with no correction notices.
Cabinets guard each extinguisher from tampering, dust and accidental damage.
