The challenge

What the Client Needed

The client needed a new suppression system for its cooking line and exhaust hood, with a fuel shut-off that does not depend on building power.

What we did

How the Job Was Done

  1. Pre-engineered plans

Drawings within the Pyro-Chem PCL-460 pre-engineered design limits: flow points, maximum pipe lengths, elbow allowances, nozzle heights and aiming angles for this appliance line.

  2. Permit

Plans submitted to the Fire Department plan check, with stamped approval before any installation work.

  3. Cylinder, piping and nozzles

The PCL-460 cylinder and mechanical control head mounted; piping and nozzles over every cooking appliance, the hood plenum and the duct transitions; and a remote manual pull station on a main exit route.

  4. Mechanical gas valve

We supplied a mechanical gas shut-off valve, a plumber installed it on the main kitchen gas line, and we linked it to the control head by trip cable.

  5. Pre-test and acceptance

An internal dry-trip test of the detection line tension, the pull station and the valve closure, then the Fire Department witness test of the manual release and the fusible-link trip, with gas shut-off and alarm signaling verified.

Results

The Outcome

  • Approved on the first inspection

Fire Department acceptance on the first attempt with zero correction notes.

  • Fuel shut-off without power

The mechanical valve closes during a fire even in a total power outage.

  • One contractor throughout

From drawings and permit to the final sign-off.
