Corroded Ansul Manual Pull Station Replaced in a Tarzana Restaurant Kitchen

A routine inspection found the kitchen pull station rusted from behind and dragging. We replaced it with a new Ansul pull station, re-tensioned the cable and sealed it against moisture.

The challenge

What the Client Needed

The pull station sits next to the prep and dish area, where steam and water had got in behind the wall plate. The backing plate had rusted through, and grease and rust on the trigger mechanism were adding friction to the cable. A pull station that cannot travel its full stroke may not fire the system when staff pull it.

What we did

How the Job Was Done

  1. Disarm and remove

The control head was secured against discharge. The old faceplate was removed, rust cleared from the recessed wall box, and the stainless steel cable inspected.

  2. New pull station

A new UL-listed Ansul manual pull station was installed with its pull ring and tamper seal.

  3. Cable tension

The cable was re-anchored and tensioned to the manufacturer's specification so a pull acts at once.

  4. Seal and test

The edge of the wall plate was sealed against water and steam, and the station given a full mechanical actuation test.

Results

The Outcome

  • Manual release restored

Staff can fire the system from the pull station again.

  • Sealed against moisture

The sealed wall plate keeps water and steam from the new mechanism.

  • No disruption

The kitchen kept working during the repair.
