The challenge

What the Client Needed

This kitchen runs two suppression systems together: a CaptiveAire CORE Protection System and an older Ansul R-102 wet chemical system. Both need semi-annual service under NFPA 17A and NFPA 96, and both have to work with the exhaust fan controls and the fuel shut-off.

What we did

How the Job Was Done

  1. CaptiveAire CORE system

We checked the electronic control board, the solenoid valves and the wet chemical backup charge; nozzle alignment, blow-off caps and clear flow paths over every cooking appliance; and the thermal sensor thresholds and the signal link to the exhaust fan control panel.

  2. Ansul R-102 system

We checked the agent cylinder gauges, weighed cylinders where applicable, checked the control heads for tension and readiness, and replaced every fusible link on the detection line.

  3. Manual release test

A dry-trip test from the manual pull station confirmed smooth cable travel and microswitch operation without discharging agent.

Results

The Outcome

  • Both systems on schedule

Semi-annual service completed under NFPA 17A and NFPA 96, with new service tags on both systems.

  • Itemized report

Facility management and the fire authority received a report of every test point, replaced component and system status.
